A healthy microflora is important throughout life and establishment of a robust population of friendly bacteria as soon after birth as possible is critical in the development of healthy immune and digestive function.

Whilst mums can help with this development during pregnancy, childbirth and via breastfeeding, modern living conditions and an increasingly sterile environment may impact upon the natural development of a normal microflora. It may therefore be useful to support this process in a newborn baby.
